HOWEVER.
Today marked my first day as an intern/volunteer in his studio, and I must say, it was a humbling experience. I got my first taste of printing in a completely different manner than I was taught (NO BRAYERS!), in a printshop so different, yet so similar to the one I "grew up" in. I learned some new techniques, and found out that I have been lacking in the ink maintenance department.
I was a little embarrassed about that. But Paul was patient with me and taught me the Mullowney Press Ways. I got to see some hand-wiping action and helped him with prints of tattoo "flash", a traditional method of exhibiting a tattoo artist's craft and imagery selection.
Another first for me today was biking in the city... a feat I have been avoiding for some time now. The experience of riding through the crowded streets proved an interesting parallel to my experience in the shop. No, it's not adapt or die, but it sure as hell is close to that. What it is, really, is that one must not go into new experiences fearful, but instead with an interminable desire to learn and and to observe. That nervousness will never be allayed unless you just go for it, and learn from your mistakes.
On that note, I'll leave you some glamour shots. More tomorrow.
